Liverpool Stand Firm as Arne Slot Faces the Toughest Storm of His Career

Liverpool’s season has unravelled at a pace that would chill even the most seasoned supporters, dragging the club back to levels of struggle unseen since the early 1950s.

A bruising 4–1 defeat to PSV Eindhoven added a fresh layer of turbulence, yet Arne Slot insists the club’s ownership has not tightened the noose around him.

Club Confidence Holds Amid Historic Collapse

The Dutchman has now overseen nine defeats in the last 12 matches across all competitions, a run so bleak it mirrors the club’s infamous 1953–54 decline.

Three consecutive losses by three or more goals have only deepened the gloom around Anfield, prompting academy graduate Curtis Jones to bluntly admit after the PSV rout: “We’re in the s— and it needs to change.”

Despite the rising noise outside, Slot says nothing has shifted in his direct exchanges with Fenway Sports Group.

“We’ve had the same conversations since I arrived,” he told reporters on Thursday. “We fight on. We try to improve. Nothing has changed in a year and a half.”

Reports in England echoed the same sentiment, with sources close to the hierarchy claiming Slot’s position remains stable.

The manager added he agreed with Jones’ message once informed: the team must at least bring a relentless attitude, though their high running numbers against PSV did nothing to alter the result.

Liverpool’s Slide – Last 12 Matches

(Chronological order, various competitions)

  • Crystal Palace 2–1 Liverpool
  • Galatasaray 1–0 Liverpool
  • Chelsea 2–1 Liverpool
  • Liverpool 1–2 Man Utd
  • Eintracht Frankfurt 1–5 Liverpool
  • Brentford 3–2 Liverpool
  • Liverpool 0–3 Crystal Palace
  • Liverpool 2–0 Aston Villa
  • Liverpool 1–0 Real Madrid
  • Man City 3–0 Liverpool
  • Liverpool 0–3 Nottingham Forest
  • Liverpool 1–4 PSV Eindhoven

Slot admitted that the team’s morale held reasonably steady until PSV’s third goal, when he saw “ten difficult minutes” during which players were clearly affected.

Though not pointing fingers at individuals, he acknowledged the standards across the board “have not been at the level we expect.”

Injuries, too, have contributed to the slide. But there was finally some optimism as Slot announced that Alisson had returned to training and was expected to be available for the weekend.

Florian Wirtz is also nearing a comeback after a short muscle setback.

Hugo Ekitiké, forced off against PSV with a back issue while carrying the attacking load amid Alexander Isak’s struggles, is not believed to be facing a serious problem.

Liverpool move forward carrying the weight of a crisis, yet for now, the hierarchy remains committed to the manager tasked with steering them out of it.
