Napoli could be forced into a difficult decision regarding Scott McTominay as financial concerns emerge for the Serie A giants.
The Scotland international, who joined Napoli from Manchester United in a £25.7 million transfer in 2024, made an immediate impact, scoring 13 goals in his debut season and helping Antonio Conte’s side secure the Serie A title.
His stellar performances earned him the club’s Most Valuable Player award and a Ballon d’Or nomination.
This season, McTominay has already netted five goals, contributing to Napoli’s strong position near the top of the league and their recent Supercoppa Italiana triumph over Bologna.
Napoli Could Be Forced to Consider Selling McTominay
Reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport and IlBianconero indicate that Napoli may be under pressure due to “expanded labour cost to revenue” regulations.
The club currently falls below the 0.8 threshold, meaning they might have to sell players to balance the books and maintain transfer eligibility.
With McTominay valued at €45 million according to Transfermarkt, the midfielder could become a prime candidate for sale if Napoli faces financial restrictions.
Failure to comply with the regulations, especially as the threshold drops to 0.7 in the summer, could even lead to a transfer ban, further complicating the club’s situation.
Gli Azzurri, currently third in Serie A, will return to action on 28 December against Cremonese, followed by a clash with Lazio on 4 January, as they navigate both on-field ambitions and off-field financial challenges.
