Spain’s Biggest Football Scandal Still Unresolved… Arbeloa Launches Fierce Attack on Barcelona

Álvaro Arbeloa, head coach of Real Madrid, has launched a scathing attack on arch-rivals Barcelona over the ongoing Negreira case, which remains under investigation amid allegations that the Catalan club paid bribes to the former vice-president of Spain’s Referees Committee.

Arbeloa made the remarks during a press conference on Saturday while previewing Real Madrid’s upcoming La Liga clash against Valencia.

Real Madrid are set to face Valencia on Sunday in Matchday 23 of the Spanish league, with the match taking place at Mestalla Stadium.

Unresolved Scandal Sparks Outrage as Arbeloa Criticizes Barcelona

When asked about his opinion on the Negreira case, Arbeloa responded sharply:

“I think no one understands why the biggest scandal in the history of Spanish football is still unresolved. I believe this is something that should concern a lot of people.”

Arbeloa’s explosive comments came at a time when Barcelona issued an official statement confirming that the club had formally informed the Super League company and participating clubs of its withdrawal from the project.

Barcelona had been expected to take part in the Super League alongside Real Madrid and several major European clubs such as Juventus and Manchester City. However, many teams pulled out following threats from UEFA to impose sanctions on participating clubs.

The project aimed to guarantee higher revenues and financial stability for elite teams, but the plan ultimately collapsed after key supporters withdrew. As a result, Real Madrid—under the leadership of Florentino Pérez—were left standing alone in defense of the project.
