FC Barcelona veteran and club captain Marc-André ter Stegen is reportedly ready to approve a temporary departure from the Catalan capital.
After falling behind Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczęsny in the pecking order following his return from back surgery, the German international is prioritizing playing time to safeguard his spot in the national team ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
Ter Stegen Open to Girona Move
According to a recent report from SPORT, Marc has shifted his stance and is now willing to join Girona on loan for the remainder of the season.
The 33-year-old is eager to accumulate minutes at Montilivi under manager Míchel, recognizing that his current situation under Hansi Flick offers very little hope for regular starts.
Despite his willingness to move, the German shot-stopper is not looking to leave at any cost.
Reports indicate that Ter Stegen is not prepared to waive any portion of his current salary, meaning the financial structure of the deal remains the primary hurdle.

The Financial Stumbling Block
While Barcelona sees the sporting logic in allowing Ter Stegen to find minutes elsewhere, the club’s financial demands are firm.
Barcelona is reportedly asking Girona to cover approximately 20-25% of the goalkeeper’s wages.
As it stands, Girona’s current budget—even following the departure of Dominic Livaković—does not come close to meeting that figure.
Ter Stegen has reportedly urged the Girona board to find a creative solution now that he has officially given the “green light” to the operation.
If a compromise can be reached, the veteran could be set for a surprise move across Catalonia before the January window shuts.
