The long-term future of Wojciech Szczesny at FC Barcelona remains uncertain as the club looks toward the summer transfer window.
Since joining the Blaugrana, the veteran Polish goalkeeper has seamlessly integrated into the squad, embracing his role as a backup and providing experienced cover for Joan Garcia.
The club’s management has expressed high satisfaction with Szczesny’s professional attitude and presence in the dressing room.
Although Barcelona extended the 35-year-old’s contract last summer through to 2027, recent reports suggest he may not see out the duration of that deal.
As the club begins to plan for the 2026/27 campaign, the sporting department is evaluating the structure of its goalkeeping ranks, leaving Szczesny’s position under review.

Barcelona weigh up contract termination for veteran goalkeeper
According to a report from SPORT, Barcelona has the unilateral right to terminate Szczesny’s contract at the end of the current season.
Should the club decide to part ways with the former Juventus man, they would be required to pay a predetermined compensation fee of approximately €2 million.
This clause was reportedly included in his 2025 renewal as a strategic safety net for the club’s sporting project.
The decision hinges on how Hansi Flick and sporting director Deco choose to support Joan Garcia, who has firmly established himself as the team’s undisputed number one.
With Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s future also in doubt following his loan spell at Girona and ongoing injury issues, the club is carefully considering whether to keep Szczesny or seek a younger deputy.
Given the strong relationship between the player and the board, both parties agreed on the €2 million exit figure as a fair resolution should the club opt for a change in direction this June.
