Girona has confirmed that Marc-Andre ter Stegen will undergo surgery this Friday to address a hamstring injury sustained during their recent match against Real Oviedo.
The 33-year-old German international had only recently joined Girona on loan from Barcelona in late January, making just two appearances for Michel’s side before the setback occurred.
While the operation is confirmed, Barcelona has not yet recalled the veteran goalkeeper, though sporting director Deco indicated that the medical teams from both clubs will collaborate closely on his rehabilitation process.

The recovery timeline for Ter Stegen remains uncertain but early estimates suggest he could be sidelined for approximately three to four months.
This projection puts his return at the beginning of May, potentially allowing him to feature in Girona’s final five matches of the season.
However, a more cautious four-month recovery would effectively end his campaign and place his participation in the upcoming World Cup in serious doubt.
Having already missed the start of the current season due to a back operation, this latest injury further complicates his career trajectory as Joan Garcia continues to hold the starting spot at Barcelona.
