Curtis Jones Reveals How Mo Salah Addressed Teammates After Controversial Interview

Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones has revealed what Mohamed Salah said to his teammates following his explosive post-match interview.

After Liverpool’s 3-3 draw at Leeds United, Salah caused a stir in the media by criticising the club and manager Arne Slot, claiming he felt “thrown under the bus” after being named on the bench for the third consecutive game.

Salah’s Apology to the Dressing Room

Following the interview, Salah was left out of Liverpool’s squad for the 1-0 Champions League win over Inter Milan but returned for the 2-0 victory against Brighton, indicating the situation had been addressed.

Jones explained to Sky Sports that Salah personally apologised to the squad:

“Mo is his own man and he can say his own stuff. He apologised to us and said, ‘If I’ve affected anybody or made you feel any sort of way, I apologise.’ That’s just the man he is. He was positive, smiling, and everyone was exactly the same with him.”

Jones added that Salah’s comments were driven by his competitive nature:

“I guess it’s just part of wanting to be a winner, and I don’t think he’ll be the last to feel that way.”

Team Perspective and Moving Forward

Although Salah returned to the pitch as an early substitute against Brighton, he will be unavailable until mid-January while representing Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Jones emphasised that there is no lingering tension within the squad:

“I get that there are ways you can go about things, but if a lad is okay just being on the bench and doesn’t want to help the team, that’s more of an issue. Any frustration from us has always come from a good place. In the moment, it might not have come out right, but it’s never meant to affect the team, staff, or manager.”

He concluded on a positive note:

“We’re past that now, gelling well as a team, playing well, and starting to win games.”
