Erling Haaland remains under contract with Manchester City until June 2034, yet his name continues to surface in conversations about a potential blockbuster move to Real Madrid, with figures reaching an eye-watering €500 million.
The Norwegian striker is widely regarded as one of Europe’s most lethal finishers. Across his professional club career with Bryne, Molde, Red Bull Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund, and Manchester City, Erling Haaland has scored 287 goals in 362 appearances, numbers that place him firmly among the elite of modern football.
Those exploits were rewarded in January 2024, when City tied him down to a long-term deal reportedly worth around £500,000 per week before bonuses, securing his services at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2034.
By the time that contract expires, Erling Haaland will be 34 years old, an age at which most forwards are expected to be beyond their peak.
For many City supporters, the hope is simple: that the club’s number nine fulfills the full length of his agreement in Manchester.

Real Madrid’s Interest and a Deal That Could Reshape Football History
Despite that lengthy contract, Sky Germany reports that Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez is eager to bring Haaland to the Santiago Bernabéu in what would be a world-record transfer.
The report claims Pérez views the striker as a “dream signing” and is targeting a possible move as early as the summer of 2026.
According to the same source, Real Madrid remain in regular contact with Haaland’s representatives, including his agent Rafaela Pimenta.
While Haaland reportedly considers playing for Madrid a long-term career ambition, any deal would be exceptionally complex, both financially and structurally.
Sky Germany adds that for Madrid to afford a transfer fee exceeding €500 million, a major departure would likely be required.
Vinícius Júnior is named as a potential casualty, with his exit seen as necessary to free up funds and balance the club’s wage structure.
This is not the first time Madrid have tracked Haaland. Back in 2022, during his Borussia Dortmund days, the Spanish giants showed strong interest, only for the striker to choose a move to the Premier League with Manchester City instead.
What Has Erling Haaland Said About Real Madrid?
In March 2024, ahead of City’s 3–1 Champions League victory over Copenhagen in the round of 16, Erling Haaland was asked directly about the possibility of one day joining Real Madrid.
His response was cautious but open-ended.
“Real Madrid? You never know what the future may bring,” he said.
The subject resurfaced in January 2025, following comments from his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, who had previously suggested he would like to see his son play in several of Europe’s top leagues for short spells. This time, Haaland was far more direct.
“I just signed a nine-and-a-half-year deal, so what do you want me to say?” he replied.
“I’m super happy with my choice, and I’m looking forward to spending many years in Manchester.”
By December 2025, after City’s 2–1 Champions League league-phase win at the Santiago Bernabéu, Haaland offered glowing praise for Madrid’s iconic stadium.
“It’s a nice place to play. Look at this place, it’s incredible,” he said. “These are the games we want to play. In this format, we get to play more games, which is nice. And I like it.”
For now, Haaland’s future remains firmly tied to Manchester City. But in football, especially when Real Madrid and record-breaking numbers are involved, certainty is often a fragile thing.
