Inter Miami have confirmed the signing of Sergio Reguilón on a two-year deal, officially appointing the Spanish fullback as the successor to Jordi Alba following the veteran’s retirement at the end of the 2025 season.
Alba brought the curtain down on a glittering career with one final, defining moment in Major League Soccer, completing the full 90 minutes in MLS Cup as Lionel Messi led Inter Miami to their first-ever domestic title.
Having joined the club alongside Messi in the summer of 2023, the former Barcelona defender became a central figure in the project, making over 100 appearances during his two-and-a-half years in Florida.
Though a left back by position, Alba’s influence extended far beyond defensive duties. His relentless overlapping runs and natural chemistry with Messi on the left flank made him a constant attacking outlet. Across 103 matches for the Herons, he contributed 15 goals and 33 assists, setting a demanding benchmark for his replacement.

From Europe to MLS: Reguilón Arrives to Continue Inter Miami’s Winning Project
The 29-year-old arrives in Miami following the expiration of his Tottenham Hotspur contract in July 2025, having previously represented clubs such as Real Madrid and Manchester United.
First linked with the MLS champions in October, Reguilón remained unattached until Inter Miami finalized an agreement running until December 2027, with an option for an additional year.
He will wear the No. 3 shirt and has made no secret of his ambitions.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Reguilón described Inter Miami as “a winning project built the right way,” explaining that his motivation is simple: to compete, collect silverware, and continue the club’s upward trajectory.
Inter Miami have already identified the Concacaf Champions Cup as their next major objective, following triumphs in the 2023 Leagues Cup and the 2025 MLS Cup during Messi’s transformative tenure.
As domestic champions, the Herons received a bye to the round of 16 and will face either Nashville SC or Atlético Ottawa when the tournament begins next year.
Reguilón brings valuable continental experience to the squad, having lifted the Europa League with Sevilla during the 2019–20 season.
Although he was part of Real Madrid squads that dominated the Champions League era, his personal appearances in the competition were limited.
Now, in Miami, he steps into a leading role—tasked not with legacy, but with continuity, ambition, and winning all over again.
