At just 18 years old, Lamine Yamal has officially etched his name deeper into FC Barcelona‘s history by overtaking Diego Armando Maradona’s goal tally for the club.
The young academy graduate reached 39 official goals with the first team, surpassing the 38 goals scored by the legendary Argentine icon during his tenure in Catalonia.
The milestone was achieved in a symbolic setting during the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Albacete, where Yamal’s opening goal confirmed his status as one of the club’s most significant modern talents.

The record-breaking goal perfectly showcased Yamal’s clinical nature and maturity.
Following high pressure from teammates Marcus Rashford and Frenkie de Jong, the winger cut in from the right and struck a first-time left-footed shot into the top corner.

This strike took his total to 39 goals in 135 appearances. While Maradona’s 38 goals came in fewer matches (58), Yamal’s achievement is being hailed due to the immense physical demands and pressure of the modern era at such a young age.
Beyond just scoring, Yamal has become a central figure in Barcelona’s current project, recording 86 direct goal contributions, including 47 assists.
While the club’s coaching staff maintains a “step by step” approach to protect his development, the statistics suggest he is already entering the territory of generational legends.
As he continues to break records once held by icons like Maradona and Messi, Yamal is proving that he is the cornerstone of Barcelona’s future.
