Real Madrid fans have received a massive boost ahead of their crucial trip to Manchester.
Manager Álvaro Arbeloa has confirmed that French superstar Kylian Mbappé is on the verge of returning to action, just in time for the second leg of the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 against Manchester City.
The Recovery Plan: Kylian Mbappe’s Status for Man City Second Leg
After watching the first leg from the stands due to a nagging knee injury, Mbappé’s recovery has shifted into high gear.
The 27-year-old forward, who recently returned from specialized treatment in France, is now back at Valdebebas training individually.
“He is getting better every day,” Arbeloa stated during Friday’s press conference. “We made a specific plan for his return, and while he won’t feature against Elche this weekend, I fully expect him to travel to Manchester.”

Despite holding a comfortable three-goal lead thanks to Fede Valverde’s incredible hat-trick in the first leg, the return of their leading goalscorer (38 goals this season) provides the clinical edge needed to officially secure a spot in the quarterfinals.
A Defining Week: The Etihad and the Madrid Derby
Mbappé’s return couldn’t be more timely. Beyond the European clash at the Etihad, Real Madrid faces a season-defining “El Derbi” against Atlético Madrid immediately after.
Currently trailing Barcelona by four points in La Liga, the Whites cannot afford any more slip-ups.
Having Mbappé’s explosive pace and finishing against Diego Simeone’s side—a team Real hasn’t beaten in their last six league meetings—could be the factor that keeps their title hopes alive.
The International Dilemma: Club vs. Country
With the March international break approaching, questions remain whether Mbappé will join Didier Deschamps’ France squad for friendlies against Brazil and Colombia.
While the 2026 World Cup is the long-term priority for Les Bleus, Arbeloa is focused solely on the immediate future. “That’s a long way off,” the coach remarked. “My priority is Manchester and Atlético. We will see about France when the time comes.”
