Man City manager Pep Guardiola is set to be without at least five players for his side’s opening Premier League clash of the 2025-26 season against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday evening. 

Guardiola revealed that Ballon d’Or winner Rodri suffered a “serious injury” during the Club World Cup and may not be fully fit until after September’s international break.

Despite this, the midfielder will travel with the squad to Molineux and could play a part—most likely from the bench—against Wolves.

Phil Foden returns to availability after recovering from an ankle knock that kept him out of City’s 3-0 friendly win over Palermo last weekend.

Pep Guardiola heads into tomorrow’s clash without the services of:-

Mateo Kovacic, Kalvin Phillips, Josko Gvardiol, Savinho, and Ederson will all miss the trip through injury. Savinho and Ederson have also been linked with potential moves away before the transfer window closes on September 1.

With Ederson sidelined, summer arrival James Trafford is expected to make his competitive debut in goal. Fellow new signing Rayan Ait-Nouri could also feature from the start at left-back against his former club.

Matheus Nunes—another ex-Wolves player—may get the nod at right-back ahead of Rico Lewis, while Ruben Dias is likely to anchor the defence alongside Nathan Ake. John Stones, Manuel Akanji, and Abdukodir Khusanov are also in contention.

Midfield options include Tijjani Reijnders, who impressed with two goals in the second half against Palermo and looks set for his Premier League debut alongside new club captain Bernardo Silva and either Ilkay Gundogan or Nico Gonzalez.

In attack, Rayan Cherki, the club’s new No.10, will push for a starting role but faces competition from Foden, Jeremy Doku, Omar Marmoush, and Oscar Bobb. Erling Haaland—who boasts an impressive record of eight goals in just five appearances against Wolves—is almost certain to lead the line.
