Manchester United Target Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde but Inter Could Spark Summer Battle

Manchester United have reportedly identified Barcelona full-back Alejandro Balde as their preferred solution to the club’s long-running problems at left-back, but any potential deal is expected to be complicated by strong competition from Inter.

The 22-year-old is viewed at Old Trafford as a high-upside, long-term fix, with United eager to add pace, athleticism and tactical flexibility to a position that has been plagued by inconsistency and fitness concerns.

While United are believed to be ready to explore the possibility of an opening offer in the summer window, the Premier League side are far from alone in the race, with Inter also closely monitoring Balde’s situation.

The interest comes at a time when United and Barcelona remain in contact over Marcus Rashford, who is currently on loan in Catalonia.

Reports suggest Barcelona are increasingly open to keeping the England international permanently, although the fee required could complicate negotiations.

That dynamic has led to speculation that a broader agreement could emerge between the two clubs, potentially involving movement in both directions.

United consider €40m approach as Barcelona hold strong position

According to Mundo Deportivo, Manchester United are prepared to test Barcelona’s resolve with an offer worth around €40 million (£33.5m). However, that figure is expected to fall short of Barcelona’s internal valuation.

Balde is under contract until 2028 and has a symbolic €1 billion release clause, giving the Blaugrana significant leverage in any talks, particularly as they attempt to balance financial concerns with the need to remain competitive on the pitch.

At the same time, Barcelona’s defensive structure could be reshaped this summer under Hansi Flick. While the team have delivered solid results this season, the full-back positions have been flagged as an area lacking depth and consistent elite-level performance, which could lead to changes in the squad.

Although Balde has been the first-choice left-back for most of the campaign, his place is no longer viewed as completely untouchable. His deputy, Gerard Martin, has already drawn interest from AC Milan, suggesting a wider defensive shake-up may be approaching.

Barcelona are also aware that, in the current market, no player is entirely “unsellable” if a transformative offer arrives — particularly one that allows Flick to reinforce other areas of the starting XI.

United are hoping this transitional phase could provide the leverage they need to convince Barcelona to part with one of their most promising academy products.

However, Inter’s presence in the race adds a major obstacle. The Serie A giants are known for their sharp recruitment strategy, and a multi-club pursuit could push Balde’s price beyond United’s initial budget.

For now, the focus remains on the pitch, but the growing interest from Manchester and Milan ensures Balde’s future is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched storylines of the summer transfer window.
