Real Madrid Preparing to Sign a New Defender

Recent reports have revealed that Real Madrid is looking to sign a new defender during the summer transfer window, following the team’s appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup.

The tournament served as a real test of the team’s defensive line, which has raised serious concerns in recent months. With several key players either injured or underperforming, the Club World Cup highlighted defensive issues that Real Madrid could no longer ignore.

Although young Spanish defender Marvelous Huijsen has shown promising signs of becoming a future solution, the poor performances of Marco Asensio and Antonio Rüdiger, combined with David Alaba’s continued absence due to injury, have pushed the club to reconsider defensive reinforcements at Valdebebas.

Konaté on Real Madrid’s Radar Amid Alarming Defensive Form

According to Marca, French international Ibrahima Konaté has reemerged as a potential target for Real Madrid after refusing to renew his contract with Liverpool. With just one year remaining on his current deal, Konaté could be sold this summer to avoid a repeat of the situation with Trent Alexander-Arnold, who left for free.

The heavy 4–0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium in New York marked a turning point for the Spanish giants. Despite relatively decent performances earlier in the competition, the disastrous display against the European champions made it clear that Real Madrid needs serious reinforcements to remain competitive in major tournaments.

Although Éder Militão returned after a long absence, his second-half appearance — when the result had already been decided — failed to inspire confidence. The same goes for Dani Carvajal, who had little impact during his time on the pitch.
