Real Madrid has reportedly been offered the opportunity to sign Manchester City midfielder Rodri this summer.
The Spanish international, who has just over a year remaining on his current contract, has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu in the past.
However, Rodri’s recent form has been hampered by persistent injury struggles following an ACL tear in the 2024-25 season.
While he is still considered a top-tier holding midfielder, his performances this season have raised concerns as Manchester City struggles to keep up with Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
Guardiola Open to Massive Swap Deal
Despite Rodri’s status, reports from Spain via Football365 suggest that Pep Guardiola is prepared to let the 29-year-old leave.
The midfielder is said to be keen on a return to La Liga, and City is reportedly eyeing a bold swap deal rather than a traditional transfer fee.
Guardiola is a long-term admirer of Rodrygo and would be thrilled to add the Brazilian winger to his squad.
Furthermore, City is also targeting Federico Valverde as a potential successor to Rodri’s role in midfield, viewing the Uruguayan as a perfect fit for their system.

Why This Proposal is Nonsensical for Real Madrid
While Rodri’s legacy as one of the greatest defensive midfielders is secure, the terms of this proposed swap are heavily weighted against Real Madrid.
Rodri is approaching 30 and entering the final year of his contract, whereas the players City wants in return are in their prime.
Rodrygo is only 25 and has two years left on his deal, while the 27-year-old Valverde is under contract until 2029.
Both players are vital to Madrid’s current setup and future success. Trading two younger, versatile stars for a player whose peak years may be behind him would be an illogical move for the Spanish giants.
