Rodrygo Reveals Simple Strategy to Win Back Xabi Alonso’s Trust

The Brazilian forward admits his role at Real Madrid has ‘drastically diminished’ and outlines his plan to recover his place in the starting XI.

Real Madrid star Rodrygo has adopted a pragmatic, “no-nonsense” approach to the challenging spell he is currently facing at the club, stating that the only way he can win over manager Xabi Alonso is through unwavering “hard-work and dedication.”

Rodrygo, who at his best is considered one of the world’s elite wingers, has been an integral part of Real Madrid’s recent Champions League triumphs.

However, the Brazilian has struggled to replicate that form this season and has been relegated to a sporadic role under Xabi Alonso during the manager’s inaugural campaign on the Madrid touchline.

The Training Ground Battle: Where Rodrygo Must Prove His Worth

Speaking after Brazil’s recent draw against Tunisia, Rodrygo offered candid thoughts on his current status with Los Blancos, acknowledging his diminished opportunities.

“There’s not a lot I can do,” Rodrygo admitted, via ESPN. “I have to keep working, dedicating myself and trying to win the trust of the manager there [Alonso], like I have the trust of the manager here [Carlo Ancelotti].”

The 24-year-old winger believes the path back to the starting lineup is clear, but demanding: “That [Alonso’s trust] is only obtained during training sessions. To keep improving, for him [Alonso] to see my dedication and maybe then I’ll have more opportunities.”

Rodrygo’s struggles at Real Madrid began even during Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure, leading to heavy transfer speculation last summer.

Despite his club woes, the Brazilian continues to feature regularly for the national team, having started as many games for Brazil (three) this term as he has for Real Madrid.

Furthermore, all three of his goal involvements this season have exclusively come while wearing the Seleção shirt.

If his difficult situation at the Bernabéu persists, consistent playing time and strong performances with Brazil will become paramount for the winger, likely linking him once again with a potential move away from the Spanish capital in upcoming transfer windows.
