Real Madrid’s Biggest Defeats in the Last Decade – Barcelona and PSG Lead the List

Real Madrid suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat against French side Paris Saint-Germain in the semi-finals of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, currently being held in the United States.

This big loss has joined the list of Real Madrid’s biggest defeats in the last ten years across all competitions, both domestic and international.

Barcelona, Real Madrid’s traditional rival, has inflicted the most heavy defeats on the club in the last decade across various competitions.

Real Madrid’s 10 Biggest Defeats in Recent Years

According to the global football data network Transfermarkt, the biggest defeat on the list was a 5-1 loss to Barcelona in the 2018/2019 season. This is followed by the recent 4-0 defeat to PSG in the Club World Cup — a result identical to three other losses to Barcelona: once last season, once in the 2021/2022 season, and once in the 2015/2016 season.

Manchester City also defeated Madrid 4-0 in the semi-finals of the 2022/2023 UEFA Champions League.

Additionally, Real Madrid lost 5-2 to Barcelona in last season’s Spanish Super Cup final, 4-1 to Valencia in the 2020/2021 season, and by the same 4-1 margin to Ajax in the 2018/2019 season.

In tenth place is Arsenal, who defeated Real Madrid 3-0 in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League last season.
