Flick Threatened With Departure From Barcelona in This Case

Spanish newspaper Marca reported on Sunday that Hansi Flick could leave his position as head coach of FC Barcelona in the coming period, coinciding with the club’s presidential elections, which are scheduled to take place later this year.

Flick Faces Possible Exit from Barcelona Amid Potential Changes to the Sporting Structure

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has announced that the presidential elections will be held on March 15, with Víctor Font considered Laporta’s main rival.

According to the report, Barcelona’s sporting structure will be one of the most important issues to be addressed by the club’s next president, whether it is Laporta or Font.

Marca noted that Font has already made his intentions clear, stating that if he wins the presidency, Deco will not continue as the club’s sporting director. Font said:

“Deco will not be my sporting director. We will build a structure that best suits Hansi Flick. We will not reveal the name now, as he is under contract. There will be no one connected to the current sporting structure.”

The newspaper added that Font’s main issue with Deco is the signing of Vitor Roque, whom Barcelona signed from Athletico Paranaense for €30 million in 2024, a player who failed to meet expectations.

Barcelona later loaned Roque to Real Betis before selling him permanently to Palmeiras for €25 million plus add-ons, while retaining 20% of any future sale of the 25-year-old player. This was seen as evidence of the disastrous nature of the deal, especially since Roque’s current market value stands at €40 million.

The report also explained that Font believes Deco made a mistake by allowing Iñigo Martínez to leave Barcelona last year, as the veteran defender joined Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia on a free transfer, without Barcelona receiving any financial compensation.

It added that Barcelona’s defense has been significantly affected this season by Martínez’s departure, while Font does not understand how the player was allowed to leave so easily. Reports had indicated that there was a prior agreement between the player and the club’s management allowing him to leave for free if an offer like Al-Nassr’s arrived.
